Yerba Buena Lofts

Yerba Buena Lofts at 855 Folsom Street is one of those buildings people slow down to look at. Its concrete grid and glass bays glow along Folsom at night, and inside are 200 two-story lofts right in the middle of SoMa — a short walk to Yerba Buena Gardens, SFMOMA and Moscone Center, with Whole Foods across the street. The building was designed by architect Stanley Saitowitz of Natoma Architects, finished in the early 2000s, and has picked up design awards along the way, including an AIA Design Excellence Award.

Mike Broermann sold the original 200 lofts when the building first opened, and he lives here today. That means he knows the floor plans, the views and the light, the quirks that make one unit different from the one next door, and how the building runs day to day.

Living Here

Every loft has a double-height ceiling — 16+ feet — with tall walls of glass that let in a lot of light. Layouts range from about 500 to 1,400 square feet, from open studios to one- and two-bedroom lofts, and every home has its own outdoor space, whether that’s a balcony, a garden, a terrace or an upper-level deck. On the ground floor there are live/work lofts with their own street entrance, and the top floor has the penthouses.

Day to day, the building is easy to live in: there’s a 24-hour attended lobby, secure garage parking, and staff who take care of packages and keys. Union Square, the Financial District and Caltrain are all close by.
